Kurt Hohmann

In another era, somebody with as many interests as me would likely wear the label of “Renaissance Man.”

Today, that label is just as likely to be “Jack of All Trades, Master of None.”

I can live with that.

I’m a writer…except when I feel like settling back and being a reader.

Or finessing my oral storytelling.

I’m a practicing Heathen…but does that still apply when I’m delivering a sermon?

I’m a dedicated hand-drummer…one who always thought about picking up a bass guitar.

I’m a perpetual student…including those times when I’m called upon to teach.

I’m a foodie, totally in my element in the kitchen…but sometimes a bag of chips is all I crave.

Why call this whole effort “Stumbling Through the Shadows?”

Well, “Stumbling through” seems appropriate enough, as I’m one of those people who can never be entirely happy delving into any one subject too deeply, so I spend no shortage of time in what I’d call stumble mode – learning the ropes, getting my feet wet, getting myself just to the point where I start to feel competent.

As for “the Shadows” – that’s a deeper topic. The fiction I write tends to deal with the darker side of the world, and so too does much of what I read. There’s something wonderfully cathartic about dark fiction – a release of emotions that otherwise might never see the…er…light of day.

And my spiritual work also leans toward the darker side of the house – I feel very much at home communing with the dead.
